The European Union and United States on Tuesday (local time) criticised the jailing of a citizen-journalist in China who reported on the early outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic from Wuhan.
On Monday (local time), a Chinese court handed down a four-year jail term to Zhang Zhan, who reported at the peak of the crisis in the city where the coronavirus first emerged. Her lawyer said Zhang was jailed on the grounds of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble".

Some returnees will face more frequent tests for COVID-19 to provide additional protections at New Zealand's border following the emergence of a new coronavirus variant in the UK.
The additional regulations, announced by COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins on Monday, will apply to returnees from the UK and other high-risk countries such as the US. It requires them to undergo a mandatory test on day one of their stays in managed isolation, in addition to the days three and 12 tests already in place.

Sixteen new imported cases of COVID-19 have been detected in managed isolation and quarantine facilities (MIQ) over the past four days, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday.
There is no new evidence of community transmission.
One historical community case from seven months ago has been confirmed.
