The long-awaited announcement on when Aotearoa's borders will reopen to the world was made on Wednesday afternoon and it's not entirely good news for Kiwis here and overseas.

Minister for COVID-19 Response, Chris Hipkins, announced "fully vaccinated New Zealanders will find it easier to come home from January 2022."

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins both say venues requiring Covid-19 vaccine passes will be able to check them visually instead of using an official app if they wish to.

But the Ministry of Health’s website for the verifier app disagreed, saying vaccine passes would need to be scanned to “allow entry”.

Two siblings from Kāwhia are urging their whānau to get vaccinated decades on since they both fought and survived polio.

Maea Marshall and John Forbes were both only children when they caught polio and became paralysed - and still suffer from remaining injuries today.
