The United States says it will not send government officials to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, after China pledged unspecified "countermeasures" against any such diplomatic boycott.
Last month, US President Joe Biden said he was considering such a diplomatic boycott amid criticism of China's human rights record, including what Washington says is genocide against minority Muslims in its western region of Xinjiang.

Myanmar's deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi was jailed for four years on Monday on charges of incitement and breaching coronavirus restrictions, a source familiar with the proceedings said, in a case critics dismissed as a farce.
President Win Myint was also sentenced to four years in prison, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, as the court delivered its first verdicts against civilian leaders detained in a February 1 military coup.

Just threatening to take "countermeasures" to any country that boycott's is enough for me to just boycott the Bejing Olympics. If you start threatening like it doesn't help people then start to dig their heels in and stick to their word...
Personally while the CCP are in power they should have never got the rights to host either the summer or winter Olympics after the way the treat other countries, and especially the way they treating the Uyghurs and slowly performing genocide on them. CCP can get fucked.

The coronavirus pandemic has weakened China's power in the Indo-Pacific, and the region's deepening security uncertainties present a "significant" risk of war, the Lowy Institute said in a report on Sunday.
U.S. allies in the region and key balancing powers such as India have never been more dependent on American capacity and willingness to sustain a military and strategic counterweight in response to China's rise, said the Sydney-based foreign policy think tank.
