New Zealand is sending Defence Force and Police personnel to the Solomon Islands after days of violence and unrest.

On Tuesday, the Solomon Islands government formally requested assistance from New Zealand to maintain security in its capital, Honiara. Protests calling for the removal of Prime Minister Manasseh have spiralled into riots, multiple deaths and a humanitarian crisis.

Two Afghan women judges have arrived in New Zealand and a third is on her way here, following efforts led by a New Zealand Supreme Court judge to help them flee the worsening situation in Afghanistan.

The judges were given New Zealand visas after pleas by the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ)’s president, Justice Susan Glazebrook.

Scott Watson, the man convicted of murdering friends Olivia Hope and Ben Smart after a New Year's Eve party in the Marlborough Sounds, fears he will be stuck in prison forever.

On Tuesday, the now 50-year-old Watson was denied parole for the fourth time after the Parole Board said he remained an undue risk to the public.

Vaccine passes are being offered for sale on a social media platform for $10, with transactions being done in bitcoin currency.

One anonymous post offers $50 for passes and claims they are “real”. “We pay $ for vaccine passes, and then we sell them to members of the public who need them,” the post read.

The Solomon Islands Government has formally requested assistance from New Zealand after days rioting, violence and unrest in the capital Honiara.

Stuff understands some personnel from 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, received orders on Tuesday to assemble back at their base in Linton ahead of a possible deployment.

The levels at which different parts of New Zealand will move into the new COVID Protection Framework, or 'traffic light' system, have been released by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. 

Northland, Auckland, Taupō and Rotorua, Kawerau, Whakatane, Ōpōtiki, Gisborne, Wairoa, Rangitikei, Whanganui and Ruapehu will move into 'red', while the rest of the North Island will start at 'orange'.
