The British High Commissioner believes the United Kingdom and New Zealand are "very much on the same page" when it comes to China, pushing back on speculation Aotearoa is splintering from one of its traditional partners. 

New Zealand's relationship with other members of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing group - Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States - was thrown into the spotlight in April after comments from Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta.

A 'Robin Hood'-style policy, redistributing the big salaries of public service chief executives to lower paid workers, would be more effective than the Government-ordered pay freeze, according to a leading business academic.

The directive, which essentially means those in the public sector earning more than $60,000 will only get a pay rise in exceptional circumstances for the next three years, has infuriated some workers.

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) said on Thursday the defendants are entitled to seek name suppression therefore haven't been named until any name suppression issues have been resolved.

Fish and Game says it is disappointed to hear about the dumping of duck carcasses in a rest area in Otago, but insists the sport should not be banned.

Animal rights group SAFE said it was contacted on Thursday after a member of the public found 15 to 20 dead birds near Long Beach.
