OPINION: It doesn't take much for the thin veneer of decency to slip for many people. Given the whiff of a potential threat to mankind and humanity goes flying out of the window as our dark inner selves emerge.

Coronavirus, which is rapidly spreading across the globe, has infected more than just the victims who have come in contact with it.

I read recently about how baby boomers are taking over the CBD.

Latest census figures showed 55 to 74 year olds are moving into central city Auckland at pace.

They’re grabbing up city and city fringe properties at three times the rate of any other group.

The third case of COVID-19 is a New Zealand resident in his forties from Auckland.

The man's family members returned to the country after visiting Iran, but he did not travel with them.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield confirmed in a media briefing on Thursday that it was likely a case of "family transmission".

"There is what appears to be a clear link with travel to Iran by a close family member. Our view remains that with continued vigilance the chance of widespread community outbreak remains low," he said.
