Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is eyeing additional border restrictions following United States President Donald Trump's 30-day ban travel ban on Europe.

"I expect I'll be getting advice in the next 24 hours to move again on our border restrictions," the Prime Minister told reporters in Northland on Thursday.

US President Donald Trump has announced all travel from Europe to the United States is suspended for 30 days due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

The travel ban doesn't include the United Kingdom.

 Coronavirus COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

"WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming level of spread and severity and by the alarming levels of inaction," said Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

People with high blood pressure may be more at risk of dying from COVID-19 once infected, according to a small study of coronavirus patients in China.

In a recent phone interview with Bloomberg, a top Chinese intensive-care doctor warned of hypertension, or high blood pressure, posing a "very dangerous" risk to COVID-19 patients.
