A rumoured suspected case of coronavirus in Wellington is partly to blame for the last-minute cancellation of a mosque open day in the city.

Mayor Andy Foster refused to confirm there was a suspected case in the capital and would only say there had been other suspected cases that turned out to be false alarms.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says quarantine powers may be used to keep possible Covid-19 coronavirus cases in hospital is they refuse to self-isolate. 

Ardern, in an interview on Q+A on Sunday morning, explained in greater detail how the Government's decision to require all international travellers to self-isolate for 14 days was expected to work.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the Government will unveil an economic package designed to get New Zealand "through the worst" of the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday.

Ardern told TVNZ's Q+A it would be "the most significant package that I will announce while I am Prime Minister".

Jacinda Ardern doesn't think police will be required to enforce self-isolation, but they will be called up if necessary.

New Zealand now requires all visitors, with few exceptions, to go into self-isolation on arrival in the country. The extreme measure's been implemented to stop the coronavirus pandemic getting a foothold in New Zealand, which so far has only six confirmed cases - all of them brought in from overseas.

The National Remembrance Event for the March 15 terror attack has been cancelled due to coronavirus. 

A large crowd, including many who travelled to New Zealand from overseas, was expected at Sunday's national event in Christchurch to mark one year on from the attacks on two mosques that took 51 lives.
