Some Afghans who took court action to force the processing of their applications for New Zealand visas are still waiting for an answer six months on.

After a judge at the High Court in Wellington said their applications for residence visas must be promptly considered and decided, 26 people from the group of about 70 have arrived in New Zealand.

The costs to upgrade the ship Te Mana, and before it Te Kaha, have blown out to between $600 million and $700m, due in part to project management mistakes.

An electronics and bottle store are the latest victims of Auckland's crime spree on Tuesday morning. 

Police were at the scene where a Vodafone store and a Bottle-O shop, which are in the same complex in Takanini, were burgled shortly after 2:30am.

Controversial climate action group The Tyre Extinguishers claims it's started deflating tyres in Christchurch.

After being slammed earlier this month for deflating the tyres of vehicles in Auckland they say are "gas guzzlers", the group said it has spread its actions further down the country.
