China's President Xi Jinping will attend Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's virtual COVID-19 APEC meeting on Friday night, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Ardern announced on Monday that for the first time in APEC history, leaders of member economies will hold an additional meeting with a focus on COVID-19 and its economic implications. She wants a discussion on "immediate measures to achieve more coordinated regional action" as well as on steps for long-term growth.

New Zealanders feel "shut down" and are accused of being a racist or a 'Karen' if they say something, Judith Collins says as she celebrates National's new 'Demand the Debate' campaign.
The opposition party on Sunday launched the campaign, which it says comes in response to policy announcements by the Government which it never campaigned on, such as the electric car rebate scheme. A senior Russian security official warned Britain on Wednesday not to sail its warships near Russian-annexed Crimea again unless it wanted its sailors to get hurt.
The warning, issued by Mikhail Popov, deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council, follows an incident last month when British warship HMS Defender exercised what London said were internationally recognised freedom of navigation rules in Ukrainian territorial waters near Crimea.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is urging other nations to "let go of narrow, nationalistic approaches" to help the world heal from the COVID-19 pandemic.
