Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that the general election will be held on September 19.

The announcement was made at the Beehive in Wellington, during at the first post-cabinet press conference of 2020, after Ardern advised the Governor-General.

US President Donald Trump has offered China "any help that is necessary" to control a coronavirus outbreak that has killed 81 people and left tens of millions stranded on the biggest holiday of the year.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will "inspect and direct" efforts to control the outbreak and promised reinforcements, as provincial authorities faced accusations they failed to respond in time.

Health officials are investigating a possible case of coronavirus at a Queenstown Hotel.

A Ministry of Health spokesperson told Newshub it has received unconfirmed reports of a person staying at the Rees Hotel with the disease.

Why didn't they put people in quarantine for 3 weeks... close borders. The only way to truly contain an outbreak is to restrict its movement and let it run its course.

They should have been denying flights from China and putting people in quarantine... if they complain then tough shit.
