The group has filed an application for a judicial review of the directive.

The acting United States Ambassador to New Zealand says the current situation in Afgahnistan is "not how we wanted this to end".

Twenty years on from the 9/11 attacks that led to the War on Terror, the central Asian nation invaded by US-led forces in 2001 is back under Taliban rule. The Islamic fundamentalist group was deposed in 2001 after it refused to hand over al-Qaeda leaders based in Afghanistan who plotted the attacks.

For the first time since the Anzac-class frigate program commenced in the 1980s, the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) are simultaneously undertaking a comprehensive fleet recapitalisation. By the mid-2030s, the RNZN and RAN are both due to replace their current surface warfare, patrol, sealift, hydrographic, and mine countermeasures vessels. This presents a unique opportunity to reinvigorate and strengthen the trans-Tasman relationship by pursuing a coordinated and consolidated approach to maritime capability acquisition that would enhance interoperability and reinforce a sense of shared purpose and direction between the allies.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that a quarter of a million extra Pfizer doses are en route to New Zealand from Spain. 

The additional COVID-19 vaccines are due to arrive on Friday morning. It will allow the Government to maintain high levels of vaccination this month, before the bulk of doses arrive in October.
