New Zealand's lead advisor to the Government on economic and financial policy expects house prices to increase more than 10 percent in 2022 - after a 29 percent rise in 2021.
Treasury's latest economic and fiscal update, known as HYEFU, shows house prices are forecast to increase 10.4 percent next year, meaning the median house price - currently $925,000 - will rise to more than $1 million.

More than 100 former Afghan national security forces and others have been killed since the Taliban takeover in August, most at the hands of the hardline Islamist group which is recruiting boy soldiers and quashing women's rights, the UN said on Tuesday.
Nada al-Nashif, UN deputy high commissioner for human rights, said that in addition, at least 50 suspected members of a local affiliate of Islamic State known as ISIS-Khorasan - an ideological foe of the Taliban - died by hanging and beheading.

Rocket Lab’s centre of gravity has shifted further away from New Zealand and towards North America after it announced it would buy United States space solar tech company SolAero for US$80 million (NZ$118 million).
Rocket Lab will take on 425 staff as a result of the acquisition, which is expected to be complete by the end of March.

At least one person has died in the UK after contracting the Omicron coronavirus variant, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday, the first publicly confirmed death globally from the swiftly spreading strain.
Since the first Omicron cases were detected on November 27 in the United Kingdom, Johnson has imposed tougher restrictions and on Sunday cautioned the variant could overcome the immune defences of those inoculated with two shots of vaccines.

As hundreds of people started to gather at an anti-lockdown protest in Auckland, authorities sent text messages to Destiny Church's Brian Tamaki telling him to tell the crowd to social distance.
Deputy Police Commissioner Wally Haumaha sent a series of texts to Tamaki on the morning of Saturday, October 2, as crowds started arriving at the Auckland Domain and nearby Auckland War Memorial Museum.
