We are slowly running out of cafe's to visit as we near the end of our cafescpade, but there are a still a few we have to do and Union Co Cafe out at Port Chalmers is another one we crossed off the list.

Now both Xaria and I vaguely remember visiting here many years ago, and when we say vaguely... we mean vaguely remember.
We drove out to Port Chalmers on Sunday morning which was nice and took from home through town and out to the Port maybe just under 20 minutes. I nice Sunday morning drive. We found a part pretty close and wandered down to the corner.
Union Co Cafe is a pretty small cafe and was already pretty busy but we went in and ordered... They had a nice selection of counter food from scones and muffins to sausage rolls and and various other savories. They also had a selection of cakes and sweets and a set menu like all day breakfast etc.

However we wanted our coffee with a savory muffin today and it just so happens that they served coffee and had savory muffins...
Now I can remember which came first the chicken or the egg muffin or the coffee I have a feeling the muffin arrived first but not to far behind was our coffees. The muffin was pretty good, and appeared to cut and then grill heated and butter just melted nicely through it. There was plenty of different vege's, cheese and onions and other stuff etc all mixed in to the muffin and was pretty tasty.
While Xaria found the coffee a little strong for her taste but still enjoyed it, but as we discussed a double shot and strength depends on the size of the mug or cup, I personally found the coffee pretty good and enjoyed. So the two muffins and two coffee's came to about $22.00 which pretty good. We finished our coffee and I saw the waitress delivering some carrot cake to a patron and I thought in my great wisdom... Carrot Cake now there is something I have not had in a while. So we order a piece to share between the 2 of us. I was asked whether we wanted cream or yogurt on the side... I just answered "Yes" ... so we got a bit of both. The carrot cake was more on the expensive side at $8.50 but was pretty good. I personally would have struggled eating it all on my own (Yeah I don't eat as much as I use to...)
Union Co Cafe really does have the cafe atmosphere and part of the cafe culture. It would be a place you would meet friends and have good catch up, as it just so happens there was a group just doing that when we arrived. Over all we enjoyed our visit and would be happy to go back for another coffee some day.
