An Australian woman, who was raped by her half brother, is devastated after her own parents supported her rapist in court.

The 28-year-old woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was attacked by the man when she was just 14. 

She was invited to his Fraser Coast home in Queensland under the pretence of a "house party". When she arrived, she found her then 21-year-old half brother and his housemate.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the victim's identity, provided the teen with alcohol and marijuana. When she passed out, he raped her.

She was violated a second time when she woke up the next morning. She was only made aware of the rape when her brother gave her $20 for the morning-after pill, reports the Daily Mail.

The man then called his older sister and said he was worried the victim might be pregnant. He claimed she asked him to "teach her how to have sex" so she would know what to do in the future.

The woman has experienced fresh trauma following the trial

The woman's father convinced her into withdrawing the allegations after she notified police about the rapes two years later.

Ten years passed before the woman took her story to the police for a second time. Last week, her attacker was sentenced to eight years in jail at the Brisbane Supreme Court for raping his sister two times.

The now father-of-six has been found not guilty of four other charges, including a rape, two indecent dealings with a child and supplying dangerous drugs to a minor, reports NewsRegional.

The woman's devastation was amplified when her parents decided to support the rapist in court, refusing to acknowledge their daughter. 

The parents of the rape victim talked, cried and laughed with the man, reports Fraser Coast Chronicle.

Justice Douglas said the man had shown no remorse for his crimes and his decision to go to trial had caused fresh trauma for the woman.

"Her life has been affected significantly... she has anger issues, mental health problems and for a very long time, she had no sense of self-worth," the judge said in court, according to the Daily Mail.

"She grew up in fear... she is worried about not being the mother she could have been because of the demons you left her with."

The man will be able to apply for parole after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
