Dunedin police are believed to be continuing their inquiries after they were alerted to a possible firearm threat in the city about 2pm.
An Otago Daily Times photographer later saw armed officers at a property in Eglinton Rd, near The Glen, and it is understood police inquiries were also made in nearby Walter St, and elsewhere in the city.
There are unconfirmed reports that a vehicle may have earlier visited an address in the area.
It is understood police may be seeking one or two people in their inquiries.
Approached for comment in mid-afternoon a police spokeswoman said police were responding to reports of a possible firearm threat.
Later approached for an update this evening, including if police were still making inquiries, another spokeswoman said she was seeking more information to provide an accurate update.
