Supporting science Our crew from HMNZS Canterbury have taken to the remote Raoul Island with MetService New Zealand, GNS Science staff and Department of Conservation - contracted electricians to carry out essential tasks including maintenance of critical weather and natural hazard monitoring equipment.
Friday’s earthquakes and tsunami warnings were a reminder of how important these early warning systems are. Reaching the island, it was all go. We have been taking staff and supplies from ship to shore, utilising the Seasprite and Royal New Zealand Air Force NH90 helicopters on board, so that these essential tasks can be completed.
Tau kē HMMZS Canterbury!
