Two new Covid-19 cases, both in managed isolation

There are two new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, both in managed isolation.

The new cases are both imported cases in a managed isolation facility, with one person arriving from Germany via the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia on September 21, the Ministry of Health said.

The other person who tested positive arrived on a flight from the Philippines via Taiwan on September 23.

Both cases tested positive around day three and have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility, a Ministry of Health spokesperson said.

There are currently 59 active cases of coronavirus in New Zealand with 32 imported cases and 27 cases from the community.

The Ministry of Health’s contact tracing team has identified 4072 close contacts of cases since August 11, three of whom are yet to be contacted. The rest are self-isolating or have finished self-isolation.

There is one person receiving hospital treatment in isolation on a general ward at Middlemore.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health said all remaining passengers on the Christchurch to Auckland charter flight have been tested, expect one.

Of those, all results are negative.

The new group of Covid-19 cases stemmed from a man who tested positive after completing his two weeks in managed isolation.

The remaining passenger is a young child who the Ministry have decided not to test after a risk assessment.

The child’s parent tested negative and the child is considered low risk.

List of locations released

On Friday, the Ministry of Health revealed a list of 15 locations visited by a family of three who later tested positive for Covid-19.

Those cases stemmed from the man who earlier tested positive after completing isolation in Christchurch.

He, two of his family members, and two others on the flight have also tested positive for coronavirus.

On September 18, the Christchuch family travelled to Taupō, where they met with 18 others from various locations from around New Zealand, before returning to Auckland September 20.

Those locations included Wellington, Christchurch, the Bay of Plenty, Hamilton and Auckland.

On Sunday, the Ministry said there are now a total of 44 close contacts associated with these cases, 36 have returned negative test results.

The rest are self-isolating and have either been tested or are in the process of being tested.

The remaining contacts with pending results are in Auckland, the Ministry said.

The National Contact Tracing team will continue issuing exposure notices through the COVID Tracer App where appropriate.

And anyone receiving an app notification as having visited a place of interest should be vigilant of their health and get tested if they develop symptoms, the Ministry said.
