Jeremy Clarkson has been admonished by his own daughter for lashing out at Greta Thunberg, whom she calls a "ballsy af teenager out there changing the world".

In a piece for tabloid The Sun, the 59-year-old former Top Gear host labelled the 16-year-old climate activist a "spoilt brat" who should "be a good girl and shut up".

Greta has been attacked via countless media outlets around the world since her impassioned plea at the United Nations Climate Change Summit last week.

But the insulting tone of Jeremy's words has drawn fierce backlash - including from his 25-year-old daughter Emily.

"Wouldn't it be nice if all middle-aged blokes could talk to and about Greta, the ballsy af teenager out there changing the world, like this," she tweeted, with a link to a gushy tweet about Greta from English comedian John Bishop.

Even though Jeremy wasn't mentioned in his daughter's tweet, he responded: "Wouldn't it be nice if she learned some manners."

"A woman doesn't need to be polite to make a point," Emily responded, together with an upside down smiley face.

Her reply is proving controversial itself, with one Twitter user claiming it "exactly proves why feminism is becoming a cancer to the society" that is "worse than climate change".

Emily, who wears a T-shirt emblazoned with "equal rights" in her Twitter profile picture, sarcastically responded: "If wildfires don't get ya, feminism will."

Jeremy has not continued the discussion with his daughter on Twitter.
