Village Green Cafe & Bar is one of those cafes that I didn't know about, situated in the Sunnyvale Sports Complex. Xaria only found out about a few days before as well.

Name: Village Green Cafe & Bar.
Address: 326 Main South Road, Green Island, Dunedin 9018
Website: https://www.villagegreencafebar.com/

A quick drive out to the Sunnyvale Sports Complex and finding a quickly car park, being a Sunday there was ample, but I could imagine on a Saturday when the Sports fields are being used there could be less options.

Our guess is their target is for events, or larger parties of people, and they also have the area which you can hire out for an event. Being a bar they also have a license so they have it covered as well.

They didn't have a huge range of over counter or cabinet food, but still enough to be classed as a cafe, they did say it was a little less than normal as well, ie; they didn't put the sausage rolls out today, our guess is, they are more leaning to the restaurant side of things. But they still meet our criteria of being a cafe. We could walk in unannounced order something from the cabinet and get a coffee as well as dine in or take-away.

When we entered there were only a couple people there, however during our stay a few more people started to come and go and dine in so we were early.

We made our order; Xaria a savory cheese scone, and 2 cheese rolls for me (they were smaller) and our standard coffee's. We took a seat but the fire... I mean who wouldn't it wasn't the warmest of days and... fire good!

Our order did not take long what so ever, but we put that down to few patrons at the time, fully staffed and a pretty easy order. However it was still pretty quick

The cheese scone as Xaria says' "It was nice" and for our tastes a pretty darn good coffee. The cheese rolls were on the smaller side (which is why I got 2) but they can't have been that expensive as the whole order was $21.50.

As I said at the beginning it is closer to the restaurant side, but still most definitely still has the cafe feel as well. Ample seating, and on a nice day could see us happily sitting outside on the balcony. The big open dinning area giving the restaurant feel, however sitting on the couches by the fire with the view out to the sports field gives a cafe feel, a nice blend.  I have to admit, seeing the angle of Saddle Hill was kind of weird only seeing half of it... but still nice.

The view of Saddle Hill (well half of it)

Speaking of which the view would be great when the sports fields are being used during the weekend school sports games on Saturday mornings. Mum or Dad gone to the cafe after the sports game or even during the game to get a coffee waiting on little Johnny or Little Janet to finish their game.

The staff were friendly, and they were reasonable prices. Xaria also mentioned on the way out, it would be one of the cafes we would come back to for a visit... I did comment only if they have the fire going and no one had our seats. laughing  Over all a good cafescapade experience.
