A woman has been apprehended after allegedly ramming the police with her car during an action-packed pursuit near Dunedin this evening.

A witness described the fearful moment the fleeing driver was boxed in by police before attempting to ram her way out.

Police said in a statement they received numerous calls about the car driving dangerously on State Highway 1.

They found the car but the driver failed to stop after officers activated their flashing lights.

Pursuing officers then laid road spikes which slowed the woman’s attempted escape.

A reliable source said several police cars then boxed the woman in before she reversed into their patrol cars in an ill-fated attempt to escape.

”She was going for it.’’

The woman was then taken into custody but there was no word yet on charges.
